New phishing scams directed at credit union members

If you receive an email claiming that your credit union account has been accessed by an unauthorized third party please contact the credit union immediately. "Phishers" are sending out fraudulent emails with the hopes of obtaining personal and account information.

Please keep the following in mind...

Electrus will never ask you to verify your personal or account information via email unless the email is initiated by you.
Electrus would not contact you via email should there be a discrepancy with your account unless the email is initiated by you.
Electrus uses email only to communicate product and service information and for feedback.

Whether in the form of an email, text message or a phone call phishers are after the same thing - your personal and account information. Do not reply to these requests. Instead notify your credit union if you receive one of these messages.

Share Insurance Rises to Protect Your Accounts

In these challenging days Electrus wants to assure you that your money in your accounts are safe.

The shares in your credit union are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), an arm of NCUA. The NCUSIF is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government.

Passage of the Emergency Economic Act of 2008 increases NCUA coverage from $100,000 to $250,000. This increase took effect on October 3, 2008.

$11,000 in scholarship money available through the FIC

The Minnesota Family Involvement Council (FIC) has $11,000 available in scholarship money for Minnesota credit union members who are continuing their education!

The FIC is offering two $1,000 scholarships and eighteen $500 scholarships to 20 credit union members throughout Minnesota. Any individual attending a college or university, graduate or law school, 2- or 4-year program or community or technical college in the fall of 2009/spring 2010 is eligible.

Those interested in applying need to complete a one-page application form and submit a typed essay (up to 500 words in length) answering the question, "Financial education is a high school graduation requirement in several other states. Explain the pros and cons of Minnesota doing the same." Applicants are encouraged to research the topic using any sources available. The scholarship deadline is Monday, Feb. 2, 2009. The 20 scholarship recipients will be selected and announced in the spring of 2009.
