Checking Account Frequently Asked Questions Check Card Frequently Asked Questions Are my checks free? Your very first box of Electrus checks is free. There is a printing charge for additional boxes of checks. You can view the check options and even re-order checks online here. How can I avoid a fee on my checking account? If more than 50 checks clear your account in a month, $5.00 will be charged to your account. You can avoid this fee if you clear less than 50 checks each month. Using your EFCU Check Card is a great solution to writing fewer checks! How do I get a copy of a check? Call us at 763-569-4000 or 800-252-4239, give your check number and the date it cleared your account. We will then mail a copy of the check to you. There is a charge of $3.00 for each check copy you request. What should I do if a check is returned for non-sufficient funds (NSF)? Some check recipients will send your check through a second time. If funds are available at that time, the check will clear and your bill will be paid. If funds are not available the second time, most retailers will contact you for another method of payment. Electrus FCU charges a $23.00 NSF fee. How can I put a stop payment on a check? You can stop payment on a check by calling us at 763-569-4000 or 800-252-4239. There is a $23.00 charge to stop a payment. When are my deposits available? All funds deposited into your account by a credit union employee are credited to your account immediately during regular business hours. Back to Top Is there a cost to carry an EFCU Check Card? The EFCU Check Card is included as part of the checking package at no additional cost. How many ATM transactions are free each month? The first eight transactions each month are free. There is a $1.50 charge for each additional cash withdrawal. Owner of ATM may surcharge. What are the per-day cash withdrawal and purchase limits? You are allowed to withdraw up to $200 in cash using your EFCU Check Card each day. You are allowed to make up to $2500 in purchases using your EFCU Check Card. Do I need to tell the merchant that I’m using a check card? No. Merchants should process your transaction as they would with any Visa card. Some electronic authorizations may ask you if the card you are using is a credit or debit card. With your EFCU Check Card, you must select "credit." Will I have to give up my checkbook? Absolutely not. However, once you find how convenient the EFCU Check Card is, you may never want to go back to check-writing again! After I buy something, how long will it take before the money is deducted from my checking account? About the same amount of time as a check, ordinarily two business days. (Time varies depending on the merchant.) Will the EFCU Check Card replace my ATM Current Card? Yes. The EFCU Check Card does everything your ATM Card does now, plus a lot more. Your ATM Current Card will not be automatically cancelled upon approval of the check card. You must close and destroy your ATM Current Card once you’ve activated your new EFCU Check Card. Can I get additional EFCU Check Cards for joint account holders? Yes. Keep in mind your EFCU Check Card agreement must be signed by every joint account owner, even if they do not receive a check card. Be extra careful to record all purchases when you have multiple cards. Do I need to remember a personal identification number (PIN) for purchases? No. Purchases will not require you to enter a PIN. You will, however, be issued a PIN for use at ATMs. Keep your PIN separate from your card at all times. How do I keep record of my transactions? You’ll receive a receipt for every purchase and cash withdrawal. Your monthly checking statement will fully detail when and where each check card purchase or withdrawal was made. Can I access my savings account with my EFCU Check Card? Yes, but only by ATM. Cash withdrawals and transfers to checking are both possible. What if my EFCU Check Card is lost or stolen? Report a lost or stolen card immediately to Visa, 24-hours a day at 800-449-7728; and report a lost or stolen card to EFCU during regular business hours. Back to Top |
